After learning what makes up a classroom and school community in September, Harry Balfour Junior Kindergarten kids moved into November getting to know other important community helpers outside the school environment.
Through group discussions, book readings, songs, and of course through PLAY, JKers came to understand that our health and safety, our ability to come together in various settings and ways, even our freedom, does not simply happen.
We get to enjoy these special things due to the work of individuals and groups in our communities. Come October, kids crafted beautiful playdough monsters, and in December, while celebrating the gift of giving, our Harry Balfour JKers worked together to craft Thank You cards to be paired with the monsters as gifts to our Very Important School Community Helpers.
JK families also became a part of this gifting when they shared important community helpers that made up home communities. Cards were made and mailed off to these priceless people too. As the children gave thanks I quickly pointed out, "Now you are community helpers too!"
The future of Harry Balfour is bright!
